Resources for Coaching Juniors

kids1.jpgIn a podcast we recently recorded with Dr. AnnMaria DeMars on The Judo Podcast, she released a wonderful resource site for coaches. This page of the site features a number of articles written by USJA Coaching Committee Chair, Jim Pedro, Sr. Many of these were originally published in Growing Judo or the Grass Roots Coaching Newsletter. The following page has links to articles contributed by other USJA coaches focusing on tachi waza, ne waza, coaching notes and more! This is a fantastic site with lots of information for coaches.

Judo Games

Below are a couple of games from Wall to Wall Martial arts in Denham Springs, Louisianna. Great for kids, these games also drill kids in gripping, balance, and overall movement on the mat.

Seoi Nage and Corner Switch Drill

Hiram “Tonka” Cruz recently instructed at a Kids Christmas Camp and showed some great drills.  In these two clips, he shows a seoi nage drill for right and left technique, and a corner switch drill in case your opponent backs you into a corner.  These drills are not only applicable for kids, but also adults as well.  More drill clips can be found in the members section of The Judo Podcast.

Welcome to JudoCoach.US

Upon meeting with Lance Wicks, founder of Judo Coach (UK) in a podcast last month,  he discussed his initial goals for the site.  To be able to give judo coahces and instructors resources to help them teach more effectively, with updating material.  This seemed like a great idea for judo in the United States.  In the next few weeks, we are planning to facilitate a site that can be an additional resource to judo coaches, players, competitors, and enthusiasts.  We plan to facilitate this space to offer resources such as videos, photos, articles, posts, and audio.  We are also very excited about working with Lance in another avenue besides the podcasts Be sure to bookmark our page and keep checking back for more updates!
